Electrical Comprehension

Circuits, current and components

The DAA's electrical comprehension section. You read simple circuit diagrams and answer questions on current, voltage, resistance and how components behave in series and parallel. It weighs most for technician and engineering roles, and assumes no prior electronics qualification — just the core principles.

Every section explained, how it's scored, and a study plan — all on one page.

What to expect

  • Circuit diagrams with batteries, bulbs, switches and resistors.
  • Questions like which bulb lights, what happens if a switch opens, or where current flows.
  • Multiple-choice answers, timed.

What it measures

  • Reading and following a circuit diagram
  • Series vs parallel behaviour
  • Current, voltage and resistance relationships
  • How switches, bulbs, batteries and fuses affect a circuit

Instructions

  1. 1Trace the current path from the battery's positive terminal all the way round.
  2. 2In series, one break stops everything; in parallel, other branches keep going.
  3. 3Answer only from the diagram — read every switch and connection.

Tips

  • Remember V = I × R — more resistance means less current for the same voltage.
  • Parallel branches share the voltage; series components share the current.
  • An open switch or blown fuse breaks its branch — follow what's left.
