Work Rate

Match the columns, fast and accurately

The DAA's work-rate section — a fast letters, numbers and pictures coding grid. You're shown a short code and pick the option that repeats it using the same grid columns in the same order, swapped for their number or picture. Every item is easy; the challenge is keeping speed and accuracy up against the clock.

Every section explained, how it's scored, and a study plan — all on one page.

What to expect

  • A 3-row grid: letters/words on top, numbers in the middle, pictures at the bottom — four columns, so each column has all three.
  • A code of three items (letters or numbers), each taken from a separate column.
  • Five answer options (A–E) — pick the one using the same columns, in the same order, swapped for their number or picture.

What it measures

  • Sustained speed on a simple matching task
  • Accuracy when you're working quickly
  • Tracking items to the right column and order
  • Concentration under time pressure

Instructions

  1. 1For each code item, find which column it is in.
  2. 2The correct answer uses items from those same columns, in the same order.
  3. 3An item can be swapped for any of its column's alternatives — its number or its picture.
  4. 4Reject options that use an item from the wrong column, or the right columns in the wrong order.

Tips

  • Read the code column-by-column, not left-to-right on the answers.
  • Watch the order — the right items in the wrong order is the most common trap.
  • Keep a steady rhythm; accuracy matters as much as speed.
